Red Light / Amber Light Camera Charges

Inquiry:  I crossed an amber light & i saw a camera flash. what will happen now & what’s the fine? any points taken? can I dispute it? Response:  You may have been in an intersection monitored by a camera.  If so, you will likely receive a letter in the next few weeks containing information about the offence and the fine owing.  Fortunately, charges issued by camera do not carry demerit points or go onto your driving history.  Once the fine has been paid, they simply go away. Unpaid Fines – 2013-01-01

Inquiry:   I lost my licence several years ago due to unpaid fines. It is at about$8000 now . Is there any way I can go to court and make a deal to have it reduced so I can pay it in full? I would rather pay it off in one shot instead of payments but need my licence back as soon as possible. Response:   Due to the age of the convictions, we would be unable to provide any assistance in having the fines reduced at this point.  It is generally advisable when you have been issued charges to seek out legal advice on the penalties that you are facing and what can be done to mitigate those consequences.  Demerit points, fines,

I went to the courthouse to pay it off and they closed early and are closed tomorrow on my final due date given after the 15 day grace period. Im willing to pay online right now the day before my due date, will I be charged more fines? Or have a officer come to my door? I dont want any more problems. Thanks. Response:  Generally the court will not convict you until day 45 from your original offence date.  You should be fine to attend in person to pay your fines still if you prefer to do so.  However, if you do have multiple charges that have been issued to

Incorrect Name On Ticket

Inquiry:  I received a ticket after an accident, failing to yield to traffic, anyways the cop wrote my middle name as my first name, and my first name initial in the middle initial place would that make a difference? can i fight that ticket? Response:  The error would almost certainly not be a fatal one to the Prosecutor’s case as there are other identifiers such as your driver’s licence number and date of birth attached to your charge.  However, you may have other valid defences to the charge that could be examined.  If you would like to review your case with one of our staff, we offer a no-cost initial review of cases via our toll-free number 1-866-801-8299. Unpaid Fines and Licence Suspension – 2012-12-25

Inquiry:  I have some long unpaid traffic fines. The fines are due since 2002 and since then my license is suspended due to ‘unpaid fines’. I can go ahead and make full payment and get my license re-instated. However, I would like to know, if there may be a provision of some waiver/reduction in the fines payable. If so, I would like a consultation in terms of the amount that the fines can be reduced and how much would the same service cost me. Response:  Unfortunately at this point there would be nothing we could do in assisting to have the fines reduced.  Fines and penalties are generally dealt with at court during the initial defence.  After that period, an appeal would have been one

Fail To Surrender Insurance Card – 2012-12-16

Inquiry:  Hi, I just got a traffic ticket this morning, it was for failure to have insurance card. I couldnt find it in the car. However, the main thing is, I was pulled over because the officer ran the plates and noticed that I wasnt old enough to be the owner of the car aka I looked to young. I wasnt doing anything wrong, wasnt swirving wasnt speeding or driving irratically. Would it be worth fighting, and ive been told because the reason she pulled me over is profiling, thus meaning it was an unjustified search. Could the charges be dropped on the grounds she didnt have the right to stop me? Response:  The Officer has the right to stop a vehicle and ensure compliance with the
