Quebec

Hello Casey, If you receive a suspension in Quebec it will be recognized by Ontario. You would need to speak to the MTO regarding the demerit point issue. Unfortunately, we do not handle tickets in any other Province of Canada except Ontario. Kevin Subject Other (any/all other driving charges) Name Casey Inquiry I live in Ontario and I have an Ontario G Driver’s licence. While visiting Quebec, I received a ticket for not wearing a seat belt while operating a motor vehicle. If I do nothing, I will be convicted and charged a fine of $200, three demerit points, and receive a licence suspension until the fine and any additional fees are paid. Once I am suspended in Quebec, will

Incorrect Spelling of First Name

Inquiry: I got a ticket for failing to sign my permit in ink and the officer spelt my first name incorrectly. I heard this means the ticket is void. Is that correct? Reponse:  That would not be correct.  While we do need to be aware of any errors on a ticket, a simple mistake in the spelling of your first name would generally have no impact on the defence of the charge.  The officer will have included other identification information such as your driver’s licence number and date of birth on the ticket to have the simple error amended.

Speeding, and Fail To Surrender Permit and Insurance Card

Inquiry:  I was getting on the off ramp and going 109 km/h and the limit was 70 km/h and i failed to provide both the motor vehicle permit and the insurance card. Is there anything i can do about these tickets? and how many demerit points do i face having added to my license? Response:  At 39 km/h over the posted speed limit, the charge will fall into the second-highest bracket of speeding offences and carry a 4 demerit point penalty.  The other two offences carry no demerit points but will both result in a record of conviction if you plead guilty to them.   We would need to know more specific information about your case, but generally a speeding offences

Careless Driving Ticket-Collision

Inquiry:  I was involved with a rear end collision. I was unable to stop my car in time for a red light. The surface was fine but I did feel a skid of my car. I called the police immediately and was given an incident number and was told to go to the collision center. The cop there gave me a careless driving ticket and said i should go to court to reduce it. He was confident that it will be reduced and said I don’t deserve the ticket but he had to issue one. I then notice the date is wrong. It’s tmr date instead. How should I go about this. Thanks Response:  A charge of CARELESS DRIVING is

Application For An Extension Of Time To Pay Fines

Inquiry: I was charged with driving without insurance in 2011 resulting in $6200 in fines. I have been paying consistently each month since and have brought my outstanding down to half. I have received 3 extensions in the past and have recently submitted a request for another. Is there a maximum number of extensions you can receive in Ontario or is it likely I will get approved again since I have been paying in good faith? Thanks so much for your help. Response:   Every application for an extension is up to the court to decide whether or not it will be approved.  Showing that you are acting in good faith will generally help strengthen your position.

Wrong Speed Limit On Speeding Ticket (?)

Inquiry:   I was given a speeding ticket – 86k in 60k zone as stated on the ticket.  The zone is however 50k (I took pictures) and I was driving with the flow of traffic. I have a clean driving record, I have not had a speeding ticket in 15 years. I will still go to court as the officer did not want to tell me where he tagged me and was not willing to share further information to see if and where I was tagged. The street mentioned has several speed limits on it so it is important where I was tagged and that the ticket is filled out correctly? Response:  Before the start of trial our court staff
