Inquiry: Yesterday, I received a court date ticket for driving with a suspended license (all because my car caught on fire and a police officer showed up to the scene). I wasn’t aware of this suspended license. In May 2010, I received 2 tickets (speeding and obstruction of traffic) and I wasn’t able to fight them until March 2011 and April 2011 respectively. I received a “suspension of license” notice on October 19, 2010. I went into Service Ontario on December 18, 2010, prepared to pay the reinstatement fee – as my tickets were going through an appeal – and they told me that my license WASN’T suspended, therefore I didn’t have to pay the fine. I haven’t received any notices since. Now my license has been revoked and I can’t drive until my court date in September. This is all ridiculous and frustrating because I work 45 minutes away from my house and I need a mode of transportation other than my mom. Please help me with any advice in order to get my license back as soon as I can. Thanks.
Response: A charge of Drive Under Suspension carries very serious penalties including up to a total maximum fine of $6,250, 6 months jail, and a further mandatory suspension of 6 months.
