Inquiry: I received a ticket for using a handheld communication device while driving. On the offence notice, the office wrote M in the space where you are supposed to indicate sex. I am clearly a female. Will this make any difference in my case if i choose the trial option?

Reponse:  The incorrect gender on the ticket will likely not be an issue if the cases proceeds forward to trial, but we do need to be aware of these types of documentation errors.  The charge does show as a conviction on your driving history if it goes to convication.   The effect this has on your specific insurance rate will depend upon your personal demographic and driving history.  The legal work involved in this type of case is generally quite low compared to cases such as collision-related offences.  If you would like to speak with one of our staff regarding defending the charge at court, we can be reached via our toll-free number 1-866-801-8299.
