Inquiry: I got my first speeding ticket (first ticket in general) and they wrote on the ticket that I was a male, I’m a female and he added 2km to the speed I was doing. I didn’t see this until after I left. The speed I was doing was 72 in a 50 (he showed me the gun and said the number out loud) my mother was in the car with me so she can vouch for this. But on my ticket he wrote that I was doing 74 in a 50 and told me that they don’t do road side reductions anymore and that I had to take option 2 to get it reduced. Is this something that can get my ticket dropped?
Response: The charge is a three demerit point offence. It is possible that the the Officer had multiple readings including the 74 km/h, and that the speed the radar was locked at was the 72 km/h. Unfortunately the gender indicator will not be a fatal error in the Prosecutor’s case. It is likely that we could at least have the charge reduced to a lesser 0 demerit point offence, and there is the possibility that there may be another grounds to have the charge withdrawn.
