Question: I was caught speeding (110 in posted 80 zone). I believe the officer recored my speed was onto the exit ramp off Dougall Pky and 6th Concession. For him to have seen me he was positioned on the overpass parked on a clearly marked bike path from which point I noticed him backing in the wrong direction onto the onramp causing another vehicle to stop abruptly (his sirens were not on). Also, what is the speed limit on Ontario Highway exit ramps if not indicated? The speed posting changes from 80 to 100 half way up the ramp (indicated on the highway itself not on the ramp)
Answer: At 30 km/h over the speed limit, your charge falls into the second highest category of speeding offences. The location that your vehicle was clocked at for speed would be a part of the Officer’s roadside notes that would be obtained through the standard disclosure process. Generally, if an Officer is ontop of a bridge, it may mean that a laser was used, in which case, your speed may have been clocked well before you would have been able to spot the Officer. For most cases of 30 km/h over the speed limit, assuming a decent driving history and no reduction in the rate of speed having been provided at roadside, the charge can be either reduced to a lesser offence or be eliminated completely.
