Inquiry: I have just been charged a $325 ticket because I accidentally went through a red light after initially stopping once the lights were red. The officer did not mention of demerit points nor did I find any information of it on the charging ticket.
Am I already automatically deducted points? Is there any way I could lower the cost because I had initially stopped to begin with?
Response: The offence carries 3 demerit points. So long as you have not plead guilty to the charge or been convicted of the offence, the demerit points will not currently be on your driving history. Often times we are able to reduce these to a lesser 0 demerit point offence and we could certainly review the Prosecutor’s evidence to see whether there is any grounds to have the charge eliminated outright.
