Inquiry: I received a ticket for having an expired insurance slip. My other slip was at home. If I take it to court, and prove I have insurance, does that nullify the fine. Thank you.

Response:  It sounds like you’ve been charged under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act section 3(1)(a) for failing to surrender a valid insurance card when requested to do so.  Producing a valid insurance card later at Court does not change the fact that the card was not produced at roadside previously.  It is possible that a Prosecutor might agree to withdraw the charge, but it is also possible that they will simply proceed to trial where you will then have to contest the fact that you did not produce a valid insurance card when requested to do so.  If you would like to persue your matter further, we offer a no-cost initial consultation via our toll-free number 1-866-801-8299.
