Inquiry:  hello, I was pulled over and charged with a driving while under suspension ticket. My licence was suspended for non payment of fines last year. My question is that my licence has expired in december 2011 and i just got the ticket today so therefore how can i be charged with a driving while under suspension when technically an expired licence is not valid at all…?

Response:  If you have unpaid fines owing to the court, the driver’s licence will be suspended.  The penalties include a total payable fine up to $6,250, a mandatory further 6 month suspension of licence, and possible jail time.  Generally the penalties can at least be reduced, and in some cases the charge itself may be reduce-able to a lesser offence or have a grounds to be thrown out at court.  If you would like to discuss your case in more detail, we offer a no-cost initial review of cases via our toll-free number 1-866-801-8299.
